The Lions of District 31 H are made up of 43 clubs covering Brunswick, Carteret, Craven, Duplin, Greene, Jones, Johnston, Lenior, New Hanover, Onslow, Pamlico, Pender, Pitt and Wayne counties.

To CREATE AND FOSTER a spirit of understanding among all people for humanitarian needs by providing volunteer service through community involvement and international cooperation.

Activities of Lions

White Cane Fundraiser - Lions raise money through out the year to help Visually Impaired Persons who need help with getting a white cane.
Camp Dogwood Tickets - Lions raise money through out the year selling Camp Dogwood Tickets. The money raised from selling the tickets go to the maintenance fund and projects of Camp Dogwood. Camp Dogwood is a camp where Visually Impaired Persons can come and enjoy a camping atmosphere of activities (arts & crafts, boating, socializing, etc.)
Broom Sales - Some Lions Clubs still sale brooms as a fundraiser. For a club that still sale brooms contact the District Governor by clicking here.
Lions help people in their communities who need assistance for eye exams and glasses. If you or a loved one needs assistance please see your county social worker. The county social worker will help with getting the services that are needed.

How to attain Assistance through the Lions Clubs

The Lions of North Carolina through the North Carolina Lions Foundation, Inc. makes available many types of aid for the visually impaired persons. Under normal conditions, the request for aid should come through the county social worker for the blind. The social worker can be located by calling the county Department of Social Services. The following aids are available.

Canes. White Canes of three types are available for blind persons . A. The aluminum non-looking cane in lengths of 40" to 56". B. The wooden non-folding canes in lengths or 34" to 42". C. The folding canes in lengths of 40" to 56".

The social worker plays an important role in this service. The worker has the proper forms for making the cane request. The worker can determine the correct cane length needed by the blind person and can arrange for mobility instructions, if needed.

Radios. Any visually impaired person who does not have a radio may obtain one from the NC Lions Foundation. The county social worker has the forms and can handle the request.
Educational Grants. Any high school senior who is the child of a visually impaired parent may apply for aid in continuing their education. Educational Grant applications and information may be obtained from the District Sight Conservation Chairman, the NCLF Office or Social Workers for the Blind.
Camp Dogwood. Any visually impaired person is eligible to attend Camp Dogwood during the summer. The fee may be paid by the blind person, a Lions Club, or any outside organization. Complete information and application are available from the Camp Dogwood Chair or NCLF Office.
Emergency Aid. Emergency Aid may include medical, food, fuel, clothing, rent or any of one of dozens of other human needs, which must be met. Any Lion that knows a Visual Impaired Person who needs some type of emergency aid should first attempt to contact the county social worker for the blind. If the State is unable to assist, NCLF Aid is available through the Matching Fund Program on a matching basis with local Lions Clubs.
Other Aid. Often Lions Clubs get request for help that do not seem to fit into any of the above categories. These cases can best be handled by calling the NCLF Office or the NC Division of Services for the Blind. Either agency should be able to direct you to the proper source if aid is availalbe.
